I did not get the job. The email arrived on a Friday evening, and it was very short. They thanked me and wished me luck. I was angry for two days, because I had prepared for a week. On Monday, I wrote to the manager. I did not complain. I asked one question: what could I do better next time? I did not expect an answer. She replied the same afternoon. She wrote three paragraphs. My answers were good, she said, but I never asked anything about the company. The other candidate asked six questions. I read it many times. Four months later, they posted the same job again. I applied. In the interview, I asked about their plans, their problems, their team. The manager smiled at the end. "You asked questions this time," she said. I started in September. On my first day, she gave me a piece of paper with those three paragraphs printed on it. "Keep it," she said. "One day you will interview people too."
